Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is produced by combining two or more layers of float glass with one or more interlayers, a process that is completed in an autoclave under a temperature of 1400°C and a pressure of 14 bar. Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) is the most commonly used interlayer in laminated glass. The glass layers used in its production can include float glass, tempered (toughened) glass, colored glass, heat-absorbing or reflective glass, and others. Due to the adhesive properties of the PVB layer, even when the glass breaks, the fragments remain stuck to the thin interlayer, keeping the outer surface smooth and intact. This effectively prevents the dispersion and fall of glass shards, thereby ensuring personal safety. Laminated glass is available in a variety of colors including blue, red, green, pink, matte white, and black.

Introduction

Laminated Glass

  • Laminated glass consists of two or more sheets of glass with reinforcing interlayers between them. The most common interlayer is made of thin polymer sheets of polyvinyl butyral (PVB), with standard thicknesses in multiples of 0.38 mm (such as 0.38, 0.76, 1.14, and 1.52 mm). These interlayers are precisely and firmly bonded to the glass sheets through a controlled process involving high temperature and pressure. They are resistant to impact and absorb the stress caused by a blow, thereby holding the glass fragments in place and preventing them from scattering.

Features
• Safety: Prevents injuries caused by glass breakage and stops glass shards from falling during incidents such as earthquakes. • Security: Provides excellent protection for homes, offices, banks, and shops against theft and vandalism. • Bulletproof: Capable of producing bullet-resistant glass by using an appropriate number of glass layers and interlayers. • Harmful Sunlight (UV) Control: This filtration is achieved through the properties of the interlayer used in laminated glass or by combining it with reflective glass. • Sound Insulation: Using laminated glass in double-glazed windows offers the best performance in reducing noise levels. • Decoration: The use of colored and patterned interlayers, both transparent and opaque, in interior and exterior façades creates a pleasant environment while maintaining safety.
Sound Control
Glass is not a very effective sound insulator compared to other building materials. Laminated glass, with at least one internal interlayer, reduces sound transmission compared to the original glass. The sound insulation capability can be enhanced through various methods: • Increasing the glass thickness • Using double-glazed glass (with different thicknesses) • Laminating the glass
Installation
Laminated glass can be used as a single pane. Both sides of double-glazed glass can be laminated, and for optimal sound insulation and safety, both sides of the double-glazed glass are laminated. When installing laminated double-glazed glass in ceilings, make sure the laminated side faces inward.
Components Used in Laminated Glass Composition
Various laminated glass combinations can meet multiple needs, including solar control and different aesthetic properties. Heat-strengthened and coated glass, silk-screen printed glass, curved glass, frosted glass, sandblasted or acid-washed glass can be used in laminated glass assemblies. However, colored glass, enameled glass, and back-painted mirrors cannot be used in laminated glass compositions.
Dimensions
Laminated glass is produced and available according to customer needs in sizes ranging from a minimum of 25×55 centimeters to a maximum of 510×260 centimeters.
Accident Prevention
To reduce the risks caused by impact, laminated glass with at least one layer of PVB is used. However, to prevent dangers related to people falling onto the glass, at least two layers of PVB should be applied. Certainly, using more layers of PVB and glass will increase safety.
Quality Standards
Laminated glass is produced and tested under the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and in accordance with the Iranian national standard No. 16373, which is equivalent to the international standard ISO 12543:2011.
